GSU's Warren still awaiting next move

Now-former Grambling running back Frank Warren's senior season and college career rushed him right into the Tiger and Southwestern Athletic Conference record books, but they weren't enough to help him elude the NFL lockout.

"I've just been working out and seeing what's been going on with the lockout," Warren said. "It feels funny because usually I'm down at summer school this time of year, but now I'm just on my own working. It's the real world."Warren, one of 20 seniors on the Tigers' 2010-11 roster, has benefited from the camaraderie of a few teammates in the same position.

Wide receiver Larry Donnell, an Ozark, Ala., native, also is anxiously awaiting the conclusion to the NFL owners' and players' tug-of-war, Warren said.Defensive lineman Christian Anthony, from Birmingham, Ala., opted to try his luck with the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks in Nebraska in the league's third season.

"It helps a lot to have them," Warren said. "It just makes us work that much harder."

Warren said teams have not been able to contact him because of the lockout, but he still plans to see what his chances are with that league before potentially following in Anthony's footsteps.

"It's kind of weird because I don't know where I'm going to end up playing," he said. "I've just got to hope for the best, but right now it's a waiting game with the NFL. And if that doesn't work out I'll try the UFL, which would still be a nice place to play."

Warren has been splitting time between Grambling and his native Pleasant Grove, Ala., and he said he's just trying to keep in shape for when his opportunity does arise.

TSU interim football coach Ramsey adds to staff

Texas Southern interim football coach Kevin Ramsey has hired four more assistants for his first-year staff.

Former TSU wide receiver and assistant coach Quantas Floyd was named defensive backs coach, longtime NFL assistant and UH alumnus Robert Ford will handle the wide receivers, and former San Diego State assistant Larry Holton will supervise the running backs. Defensive graduate assistant Garrett Cox was promoted to linebackers coach, replacing Glynn Jones.
That leaves Ramsey needing to fill openings for special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.
